PHOTOGRAPHY

LANDSCAPE...DOCUMENTARY...PEOPLE...SPACES

Contact: fill in my contact form

Originally I trained as a jeweller and practised as such for over 30 years. My pieces were often figurative and photography played an important part in my design process. I have always been interested in my immediate surroundings, whether this is the landscape in which I live, my domestic space, or people I am in contact with, especially craftsmen. The quality of light seen in different seasons and at different times of day is a constant fascination. SEE ABSTRACT IMAGES My cameras have become my new tools, replacing the jeweller’s bench. A keen interest in all forms of design has led me to combine many of my images creating short NARRATIVES and I have also made books with some of them. I often concentrate on detail and try to show the more unusual aspects of the subjects I am photographing. The graphic quality of a photograph is very important to me and the ways in which they can be juxtaposed has led me to discover new visual possibilities for my photographs. Recent commissioned works have combined text with the image, using poems or words to create very personal pieces. I have produced flyers for small businesses, from a delicatessen and a Japanese cook to a furniture maker. I have also worked on a series of images based around old books, using the book titles to create NARRATIVES. Currently working on ‘Visual Haikus’ using photographs and words. These will continue my NARRATIVE ideas.
